Burial

A burial is defined as the action or practice of interring a dead body. The body may be placed in a casket and burial vault or it can be cremated and placed in an urn and urn vault prior to burial. Cemeteries date back thousands of years and create a place for your family to create a legacy of your loved one. We are a transient society but we always tend to come back home to visit our family who are buried in our local cemeteries.

The Darby Family purchased Sunset Memorial Park located at 3901 N. Vermilion St. in Danville, IL in October of 1960. From that date the Darby's began their quest of making Sunset Memorial Park one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the State of Illinois. Sunset boasts a host of interment options. Traditional grave spaces, mausoleum crypts, cremation spaces, cremation niches, and many memorialization products.

In the Spring of 2021 Sunset Memorial Park will open "The Meadow". It is East Central Illinois' first green burial section. Green burial is caring for the dead with minimal environmental impact that aids in the conservation of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, protection of worker health, and the restoration and/or preservation of habitat. Green burial necessitates the use of non-toxic and biodegradable materials, such as caskets, shrouds, and urns.
